Is there a way to make a volume control on a speaker
Hi I would like to make a volume control on a speaker for a high power spectra radio, I have set up two spectra’s to serve as a repeater, and it rely need to be at high volume to work properly, but the volume is to high to stand nearby even in the room, so is there a way to make a volume control for the speaker it self after the control hade volume an it should not affect the control hade volume, and I do need the speaker in place.

The best way to control a speakers volume after the amp is with an L-Pad, which adjusts the volume without changing the impedance the amp sees. Radio Shack used to have them, but apparently they have no use in cell phones so they've stopped carrying them. They do have a 25ohm 3watt rheostat, 271-265, which you could put in series with the speaker... can't say how well that would work though.

Our local industrial electronics places have the same L-pads that Radio Shack used to carry, identical to the picture in the link jackhackett provided. Yours should have them too.

- What radios do you own?: Maxon,Motorola,Kenwood, uniden
volume on speaker
the same with any radio. conect the speaker out put wire to a high value POT using the 2 outside contacts and the speaker wire connected to the wiper and one of the 2 other wires.
Using the high Ohms varable resistor you will not change the audio amp impedance much at all.
the CPU will see the change anyway and take care of the hardware but lowering the currents supply.
