Spectra A5 Programming Question

Post by KC2NNS »

I have a Spectra remote-mount setup with an A5 control head. Everything works perfectly fine with the exception of I can't figure out how to get the unit to power up on the vgehicle ignition. Every time I start the car I have to hit the manual "power" button on the control head. Is there a setting in the RSS to have the radio power itself up on the ignition sense?

One thing, the main power lead MUST be ALWAYS connected to the radio and the battery, otherwise the radio forgets to turn on and what channel, scan, ect was last.

The IGN lead is usally put on the same place as the 'good time radio' is hooked too, a 1 or 2 amp fuse is good.

The service manual talks about JU1 and JU2 on the back of an A5 or A7 control head:

Normally they're both out, and TX/RX is enabled with the front panel power switch. If you install JU2, TX/RX is enabled with power on the ignition wire, 15-pin accessory jack pin 5.

The above wording is what's in the manual, so if you're confused, so was I. There's also a setting with JU1 installed which allows RX all the time and TX requires ignition power supplied.

Whether this will also power up the radio when voltage is applied is unknown. I haven't played with the jumpers on either of my radios as the ignition voltage will always be present in my vehicles and I will use the front panel power switch.
