Spongy MTS2000 II PTT button

Post by mr.syntrx »

G'day

One of my MTS2000s has a really nasty, spongy feeling PTT button, that requires a lot of pressure to activate.

I tried swapping the side buttons over with a normal feeling radio, but that didn't help.

Any suggestions on how to improve this, other than by swapping cases? The local /\/\ dealer makes a pain in the arse of itself when I go there to buy parts etc, so I'd prefer not to go down that route, and I haven't seen any Model II housings on ebay (available to Australia) for a while.

Cheers

The PTT popple inside the radio may be misaligned. It happens a lot in the HT1000 as well. Just pull the popple off and realign it.

Not only does the popple shift, but the flex may also have shifted, which, after age, does occur quite frequently.

Gently remove the clear adhesive covering the popple, and realign it over the pad underneath, but make certain the popple itself isn't dented or flattened as well, as this will cause problematic PTT depressions also.

Any Circle-M radio with a popple can become a donor if need be, so any Jedi, or Genesis radio can become a parts donor if a new popple can't be obtained at a reasonable cost.

Circle-M probably wants you to replace the entire flex, stating it is non repairable, but we all know better.

And, if you order the entire flex, the popple doesn't come with it.

Or Saber, STX, or Genesis speaker mics. I've done that a few times.

Swiped the popple out of my other MTS2000, my trunking listening rig (dead PA - doesn't radiate a single mW, so I figured it really doesn't need a PTT button either,) and it's all good.

Thanks!
