HT1000 Programming Problem

About 2 years one of the guys at our fire dept. programmed 15 HT1000's. He has since left, and we have no way of contacting him. All of the hardware he used it still here. The cable is a Rib-less cable he got on Ebay, and did work without a rib. The software is 3.03.03. The computer is a 133Mhz Pentium.

The problem that we're having is that we can not get the computer to see the radio's. I might be wrong here, but I thought that the radio needed to be on a certain channel to be programed. THe radio model number is: H01KDC9AA3BN

It doesn't matter what settings the radio controls (including the channel selector) have when reading or programming, as long as power is turned on.

The 'Ebay Specials' in terms of RIBless cables are something that I would never trust under any conditions, and said cable would be my first suspect in the situation you describe. I'm surprised your original programming person had any luck with one at all.

My advice would be to get a proper RIB (either a Moto RLN4008 series or one of the Sandy Ganz units), and the appropriate programming cable for the HT1000's, and have a go at it that way.

The only other possibilities I can think of are that either something changed (or was changed) in the computer's configuration or it's serial port has gone bad (a distinct possibility, especially if that RIBless cable is poorly made).

If you get stuck, or decide it's not worth the effort, I'm one of several Batlabbers that can program those radios for you if you don't mind sending them out west for a couple of days.

are you booting the computer into dos first or using a dos screen in windows? check your setup for the rss and make shure you have the correct port selected. and i'm in Indianapolis, i can porgram them for you too.

That computer also sounds a little fast for that version of RSS, but I could be wrong. If memory serves, you need something higher than version 4 for Pentium compatibility. What's your location? I'm in Southwest Georgia. If I'm close enough, I'd be happy to help out a fellow firefighter.
