OT: PL 67.0 on Analog on Dual Mode Repeaters

Post by Jim1348 »

This may be considered off topic, but here goes since I am not sure what area this should go in. I just bought a Uniden Bearcat BCD996T because our agency will be switching to a digital trunked regional system next year. Anyway, while searching the various federal sub-bands I have monitored several agencies that are both P25 conventional AND analog, BUT have an analog PL tone of 67.0 hZ. I have seen 67.0 used from time to time, but it seems to have popped up so much recently that I am just wondering if it is a default PL tone for certain repeaters (Quantar?) or if there is something else causing my radio to decode 67.0 hZ.

67Hz is the first PL on the standard tone list. Most radios (including repeaters) will show this tone in their programming software as their first possible selection, so it tends to get a lot of use.

67 hZ PL

Thank you for the reply. That is what I was thinking, too. The only thing that puzzled me is that these same agencies used other nationwide standard PL tones in the past, but maybe with the switch to P25 more emphasis is placed on that and analog conventional is more of an after-thought.
