CDM 1250 Install

Post by paemtp897 »

Is there any way that you can switch the main power leads on a CDM 1250 and not use the ignition sense switch in an ambulance and have the radio come without using the radio's power switch?

Doing it to M standards without modifying the radio internally? No.

Just tie Pin 10 on the acc connector to the main supply line, have done this many times and it works fine.

I've seen them come up on random channels doing it that way. Same thing goes for the GM300s / Maxtracs. This is espeicially true with vehicles that dont get turned on or driven a lot.

If you're ok with the radio starting up on random channels, then it'll work.

Most ambulances I've worked on there is a way to get back to the main fuse panel / load manager in them without a whole ton of trouble. You just need to figure out where the factory ran their wiring through.

Depending on the ambulance and if it is a rear mount radio in the action area it may involve a combination of the following:

-Removing a strobe or halogen light (The big square ones)
-Removing the shelves and using a pick or a screwdriver to remove a side or rear panel in there to get to the wiring.

A snake is a necissity when working on them though. You could use an old antenna whip as a substitute. I've found they work really well.

What brand of ambulance is it? If I get that information I can probably tell you where to tie to get switched and constant power for the radio.

Thank you for the iformation and advise. I will have to order the accessory connector. One last question though. From what I am reading all I need to do is connect pin 10 of the accessory connector to switch power and connect the main power to constant power? This will make the radio come on when there is power to pin 10 and then turn off when pin 10 is dead?

Thank you once again for all the help.

What radios do you own?: AM/FM

as long as the radio is programmed to follow pin 10 as an ignition sense, the radio will function exactly as you stated.
