Vauxhall / Opel / Holden VECTRA (lite) install pics

Hi,

This isn't much but my girl just bought a new digital camera so I couldn't resist posting something.

This install isn't brain science.

The radio is a 25 watt VHF Hi Band GM1200E on commercial freq's.

I hooked the ignition sense line into the mobile phones car kit ignition sense pick up.

The car is a 1997 Vectra. There isn't too much room left even after just one radio. However I use to have a VHF Philips PRM8030 with the head just below the center air vents. I've since had this radio converted to UHF but have no need for the radio in the car at the moment. The cable between the head and the radio in the boot is just an 8 core phone cable with RJ45 plugs on either end, which I've decided to leave in just in case.

It's not much but it's a different car then the usual.

Thanks 007! I was waiting to see if anyone would pipe up about that.

My girl is from MA and when ever we walk to the car she always goes to the drivers side thinking it's the passanger side.

When ever she drives the thing she tries to take out anything parked on her left side...she's getting better with time.

) in eventually.

No doubt you've already thought about a remote head, but that would make the job alot easier.

I have a 2001 WH Statesman which was a pain too just stick a GM300 into. There is a 1 DIN place in the dashboard, but I was going to risk buggering up the dash.

The NSW Police (I know I don't need to tell you) use the HHCM on their radios which just shows how they can't even find the space.

For a 100 whiskys on UHF I'm sure you'll make it fit

I've never used it at 100W, it just happens to be a 100W capable radio that I bought from a guy in America. Maybe if the music playing 25W idiots on the local UHF CB repeater annoy me enough, I'll program channel 8 up at 100W.

I'll probably put it near the gear lever if I can, where the power socket is. The MCS is the first on my install priority list, but I want to get my Simoco SRM9030 in there too. The MCS has the SES and RFS RX channels on it so I really need that in there.

The NSW Police in the country (I'm not a cop, I just used the pic as an avatar because they have nice looking cars) don't have those Astro Spectra W3's like in the city. They have two normal remote head radios, generally a Tait 2020 for UHF and a Philips PRM8030 for VHF. When you add the siren controller and stuff, that makes for a really messy install.

For the foreigners who have never seen inside a Commodore:

UHF CB

I use to be on 27meg a few years back but uhf cb (in sydney) is too much for me. The repeaters are a write off. Your much better off in the country when it comes to UHF CB!

Apparently that little pop down door above the power socket is actually a DIN slot. Anyway I've seen a PRM8030 head mounted down where you propose and it looks great. The MCS should look perfect there.

Interesting about the Taits...no plans for digital I guess.

Yeah, plans for digital are a long way off. They have about 470 repeaters around the state (including the few Sydney ones which are digital). You can also buy three Taits for the price of an Astro Spectra. If a country car goes to the city for some reason and needs digital, they can always use their XTS3000 portables.
