Old develpment CP=now- current CPS ver. can not support CP

I posted here a week or so ago trying to program some XTS1500 radios. These handhelds use the Astro 25 portable software(XTS1500-2500-5000)
Attempted to program with software ver.R02.01.00 and got the message "This is an old developmental code plug.....". When I posted here and one other forum I got mixed responses to the problem.

One guy on another forum advised that he was an expert and I had to take all 20 handhelds to Motorola for firmware upgrades. Others here posted that they had experienced the same error message and I should obtain a more recent ver. of the software and it would cure the issue.

Another response was pretty scary in that if these were very early models of the XTS1500 they can only be programmed with a "beta" version of the software which is impossible to obtain.

Well I called the Moto 1-800 # and talked to a guy who had me read him the serial off the radio and he said that the number told him that it was a 2005 model and should not be on the beta software.

In the meantime I obtained a more recent version of the software ver05.00.00 and attempted to read the radio and get the message "The current CPS version can not support this codeplug as it is not compatible with this release. Please upgrade to the latest CPS version."

So basically I went from the beta scare to a message wanting a later release. I read so much about some RSS/CPS not liking XP that I installed the software on an older PC running 98 SE with the same result. I am still pretty new to this. Can I obtain another codeplug and make this work? Any advise?

CPS likes XP without a doubt.
CPS for the 1500 is on version 8. That is what you should purchase.

So you purchased 20ish of these radios, and didn't buy a license of the software from Motorola - which would get you 8.0 - and may read the radios?

Find someone with 8.0, or buy the software - to see if that fixes the problem. With 20 units, the price of the software is penny's per unit.

No...I inherited this issue from my predecessor and he did not order the software. I am not convinced that the latest ver. will be the answer. Too many differing opinions here. I don't have the budget to pay $256.00 just to get another error. This B.S. should not be this difficult.

If Mot says the serial numbers are 05 (feel free to post the first 7 pieces of the serial number and I will confirm what Mot says) then version 8 software WILL solve your problem.
You obviously have the programming lead!

I don't believe the PR1500 was even supported by version 5.00.00 or older CPS...it's not even a "codeplug too new" problem, it simply doesn't recognize the radio at all. I don't know what other board you were asking on, but trust us here when we say "get the latest & greatest version"...that being 8.00.00 at this moment. It will work.

This is a message board - your going to get people who are going to go back and forth.

On an administrative note: you can post that update in your origional thread - what was the point of creating yet another? Now it's twice as diffuclt for someone else to read through the information who may have the same question/problem. Keep them all as one.

You have a whole bunch of people on here saying buy the software.

You have called Motorola who has no doubt said that it is ok, doesn't require a firmware uplift, and probably told you to upgrade your software too, unless you danced around that issue for reasons that could only be assumed at this point.

Buy the software. If it doesn't fix the problem, then you can call up and :o to motorola with a leg to stand on.
