iDEN mobile lineup - who's got a list?

Hello all!

I'm wondering if anybody knows of a listing of (or could otherwise recite) the models of mobile iDEN units that were available - i.e., M-100, M-360, etc.

Also, does anyone know if such rigs can be added to one's Sprint/Nextel account nowadays?

The reason I ask is because I've been forced into using Nextel recently, and need something that will work more reliably out where I live and work, in what is "fringe area" for most of the newer handsets.

And yes, I know that external amplifiers are available for the new handsets, but I really didn't want anything from the current lineup anyways

You won't be able to activate the older ones I don't think - They do not comply with the new GPS requirements for e911.

at one time i had an M370 it was on the GTX mobile chassis, it had a date code of 1996.
mine was a trunk mount with phone handset much like a mobile cell phone of the time.

i heard there were 2 way dash mount versions, for direct connect, but i have not seen any.

BTW NEXTEL SUXS, go LTR!!!

There aren't any mobiles that can be added any longer.
There are some out there that have not been shut off but their functionality is very limited.
As stated, they do not comply with e911 requirements so the % of units still on the air negatively impacts the company as seen by the FCC for compliance.
Also, these units are not capable of talking outside their local area for direct connect. They can only DC to other units who are on the same "fleet" as they are. If you understand the iden network you'll know what that means, if not - consider something else.

As mentioned above, there are hard install (and software install) car kits available for many of the newer units. These kits aren't really seen too much but the involve the install kit and then a handset cradle. They can be connected to hardwire power, external antenna, PTT microphone, GPS external antenna and some have accessory connections such as horn warning.

Even one of the Fleet customers switched from mobiles to handsets a while ago. You have have seen them using handsets now if you travel. Its a customer with big yellow busses that are usually seen at airports with an H in the beginning of their 5 letter name.

To add to all this Nextel is buying 900 MHZ freq's all over the country to help with all the congestion. New Nextel units, the 3 # phones,850,870 etc are dual band, 800 & 900 mhz. The old phones 2 # 95,85 etc are only 800 mhz. If you're talking & get switched to a 900 mhz site & have an old phone, you will get dropped. Here in Florida, Nextel bought an entire 900 mhz system just for the extra freq's. GOOD LUCK. GARY N4KVE

that is very true, i put my i870 in trace mode and watch it hop around and it lands on 936 or 937.xxxx during phone calls about 60 percent of the time.

Well, that sucks. I was hoping to be able to start shopping around for something closer to what I know as a "real" rig - the GTX-style iDEN units I'd seen made me feel more at home than this new crap does. I did know about the lack of cross-fleet (is that the correct term?) support and it didn't bother me much, but the E911 issue never occured to me.

I had looked a while back on MOL to see what was available in the way of "car kits" for my handset (an i605), but couldn't find what I was looking for. I also ran into some confusion as to how to connect an external antenna to the handset, since it does not have an antenna connector like other units I've seen.

Any ideas, suggestions, or what-have-you?

It is odd that there is very little information on a true hard install of these units.
Unless you know what it is your looking for it gets difficult to mutter through all the clutter.

That's what I was looking for! Once I knew the kit itself was NNTN4846, it was easy to find out more info about it. This page was quite useful in that it shows the kit contents in better detail and also lists a bunch of accessories that could be added to it. Given that info, I'm pretty sure I know what I'll have to do.

One more thing: does anybody have the pinouts for the HMN4058 palm mic that goes with said kit? I'd really prefer to use one of the "classic" mics instead of that dog, if possible

We just put 4 M370 (new activations, used radios) on for a local customer. Nextel will still put them on the system, this customer has about 40 to 50 M370's in service.

That shouldn't matter for the mobiles- most of which only do fleet operation.

The R750's dont' satisfy GPS requirements either, but they're still permitted on Nextel/So. Linc.

I would imagine the Iden mobiles similar to a Privacy Plus 1000 might be questionable though.
