Dash Mnt Spectra to remote mount

Post by n9upc »

Greetings,

I have come into getting two dash mount spectras one in VHF and one in UHF. They appear to be good working units and I would like to mount them into my Chevy Blazer S-10 model.
However, if anyone has ever seen a blazer they will know that there is really no room to do this therefore I need to look at the remote head mount option.
Now I can not find any remote mount head kits for sale and the ones I do cost an arm and a leg to purchase so I am looking at other alternatives.
One I am looking at is trying to find a long run of flat ribbon cable and run it in between the control head and the base part of the radio. From there I would seal off both the radio and head end to prevent dust or dirt from entering.
Therefore, the question is has anyone ever done something like this before??? If they have how has the results been and if they have not what have they done instead?

Thanks for the information in advance.

You may be able to 'extend the 28 pin connector/jack with a cable having the same connectors. And with a 'header' one of the jacks could be the plug.

Trouble is finding a double row 28 pin jack.

You did not say what year you have. I have a 99 and I have a Maxtrac, scanner and a A7 remote head on the center console and all I lost was the use of the ash tray, I don't smoke so that is no big deal.

Good luck
