Programming Syntor X9000 Scan Question

Post by Dougdeutsch »

Greetings All,

I am trying to setup the scan list for a VHF Syntor X9000 radio. I have the modes programmed as "Operator Select". Once I am out of the programming I have tried to setup the list using the control head buttons. The problem is the radio will receive on Channel 1 with the scan ingaged however when I am somewhere other on Channel 1 with the scan ingaged the radio will not receive.

What am I doing wrong??

Thanks in advance,

Doug

What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's

when you are on ch3 and push the scan button does the scan light come on or does it tell you blank list? try programing some permanent lists and see what that does.

Each and every single mode in the Syntor X 9000 must be programmed for scanning by the RSS. If you have 64 modes then all 64 modes must be programmed for scanning (use the 'N' key on the RSS mode programming screen to find the scan setup). Each mode can have its scan configured differently if you want to. When starting a new X9K program from scratch its best to make a “master” mode with all the features you want in every mode and copy that “master” mode to all the other modes. Otherwise it gets tedious setting the same thing up over and over for each individual mode. Of course for existing X9K programs, the “copy all” will destroy all the frequencies you have already programmed, so it only works with brand new programs.

A flaw in the Syntor X 9000 is the mode you select on the control head does not have to be in the scan list. If you program the scan list this way without the current mode in it, when you activate the scan you will not hear the mode displayed on the control head because its not in the scan list.

This flaw was fixed on the Spectra which forces you to always include the currently selected mode in the scan list. However, the Spectra limited the number of scan modes to 16 at one time. At least the X9K lets you have up to 128 modes in the scan list with the correct 01-06707T52 U501 EPROM firmware.

The flaw/problem mostly occurs when using operator select scan lists. In this case its easy to change to a mode that is not in the scan list. Some people get around this by programming each mode to have itself as a mode slaved (i.e. not operator select) primary or secondary priority scan. Then the currently selected mode is always part of the scan list. This mode slaved approach will only go as high as the RSS will let you go (64 modes for standard RSS and 128 modes for SP RSS).

I have information on X9K scan list programming here:
