X9000 Help needed !
Hi All,
I have a Syntor X9000 Lowband (T71) (thanks PJ !!) when connected to the control head i have it comes up with a fail 01/82. My understanding of this error is that the control head is set to 64 modes but the radio is set to 32. Is this correct ?
Any help is appreciated
Thanks

Usually no. The radio needs to be reprogrammed for 32 or 64 modes. If you haven't checked yet, I think the jumper may still be set for 64 modes. Switch it to 32, reprogram as a 32 chan radio and you should be good. Also program the control head as 2K (32 channel) and you shouldn't run into any problems down the road.

Lowband radio. The original and non-complicated wide area interoperable communications system

Fail 01/82 means a problem with the codeplug EEprom in the radio, usually caused by the jumper being in the wrong position or a blank EEprom that hasn't been programmed.
It can also be a sign of a bad EEProm, had that happen before also.

Yep, Jeff is correct on that one as well..
Even if the radio is a 64ch and the head is a 32ch, it will work. But because the head doesn't have enough memory you can't program it with alpha names for all 64ch, it will just display MODE 33, MODE 34, above channel 32.

PJ seems to be saying that he swapped out an 8k EEPROM for a 2k one in the radio, and may not have switched the jumper. If that's the case, since you have an 8k head, you might as well upgrade the radio to match. Here's a link that you may find helpful in that regard:

There's no point in programming an 8k head as though it were a 2k one. That will only serve to confuse the issue later as to what hardware is actually present.

That's not a bad price, i usually just buy them from Mouser for $3-4 each when i need them. With the shipping cost it comes to about the same price as what your selling them for.

Yes, I make a couple of bucks on those, by spreading the shipping charge over a larger order, but it's more about making them available to those who don't know what to buy, along with the instruction sheet, which makes it easy to do. There's not much money in selling components to hobbyists any more.

- What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's
that error code will show up too if you have mdc turned on and the board isn't installed.
