GP300 no RX after programming
I have a GP 300 (Model#: P93YPC20D2AA) with the keypad. It worked fine as an 8 ch VHF but then I decided I was going to hack it using a code plug hack to make it a 16 ch VHF after applying the hack and programming the Frequencies in to it. It does not rx anything I can transmit but not receive. It defiantly worked fine as an 8 ch has anyone ran in to this problem with trying to hack it? I would be happy to either get it back to working as a 8 or 16 ch. Right now it is only working as a paper weight. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

put the old original codeplug back in it that you should of saved before you started.

Your GP300 is probably a 1994 or later mfg. and that radio suffers from the dreaded microprocessor change, which prevents hacking the radio to increase channels, so all you get will be this:
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8.....Channel repeats...NO hacks are possible!
Pre '94 radios CAN easily be 'hacked' to the full 16 channels, which is why Circle-M did this.

Hmmm I have the same model as the original poster.. it has a production date of 10/7/94 and it hacked just fine to 16 channels... This is only true of the 2-channel radios, giving 1,2,1,2,1,2,etc on the channel selector. All you should have had to do was alter a few things in the RSS (hex editing) to allow more channels for your particular model number. If you simply jammed a codeplug from another radio in there, your tuning data is probably completely messed up.
I've converted several GP300 2 channel and 8 channel units to 16, as well as 2,4,6, and 8 channel P110 radios to 16 channel (and gp300) status and never have encountered what you describe. The only conclusion I can come up with is that the radio's receiver is somehow messed up. Luckily, GP300s on the used market are plentiful and they are inexpensive to replace.

First I did not research the problem. Then I proceeded to try to brute force my way threw the programming like an idiot. And it resulted as such… as you well know I have an 8 channel Latin American gp300. I tried to convert it to a 16 channel with a program that was made for the European UHF gp300 so my vhf was now programmed as a European UHF 16 channel. Then some where in all the programming I had deleted my original code plug. But then Eric Read the post and was kind enough to look me up and call me. This is when everything changed. Eric asked me specific question like “ when you push the volume sel button does it make noise?” which it did indicating that the speaker was fine and that it was the programming so after a while on and off the phone and some email problems we had got it to be programmed as a 16 channel uhf without errors I simply sent him my code plug and ha changed the hex to reflect a vhf instead of the UHF and now my radio works.
Eric not only went out of his way to get my contact information, call me, and fix my radio that I thought was going to be a lost cause, he spent almost an hour explaining all the details, options, and best settings for the options. He also explained each step of fixing the problem so as not to just fix it for me but to help me understand how to avoid, and fix problems in the future.
