Minitor III Case Removal Help
I have several Minitor III pagers that have case problems. I repair all other radio problems for my FD but have never removed or replaced cases on a Minitor III. Is there a secret to doing it or a special tool? Does this also hold true for the Minitor IV. Thanks
What works best for me is a pair of expanding ring pliers, set so that when yo squeeze the handles together the jaws separate. You remove the battery door and the set screw holding the case together, then start prying the two halves apart near the battery door opening. Make sure you don't try to spread apart the battery compartment.
There will be some crunching as the two halves come apart but that's the way it is. You can generally put the two halves back together OK and have them fit securely. Some people use a large flat bladed screwdriver to do this also. It's really a p--- poor design.
The M4s are much easier - remove the battery door and the set screw and slide the two halves apart by putting opposing pressure on the belt clip and case bottom. There's a type of rubber cement used as a sealant that makes it a little difficult but once you get the hang of it there is no problem.
Just keep playing with them, you will get the hang of it.

I've just used a screwdriver and a combination of finesse and force. If you look into the battery compartment with a flashlight you'll see how the plastic snaps hold the two sides of the case together. Chances are you'll break one or more of the plastic snaps when you open it up...so when you put it back together it won't be quite as good as it was before. But if you're having to take it apart, that means something is already wrong with it, so a working pager with a slightly less secure case is better than a non-working pager.
