Spectra ERROR code 001????? whaazzaat? I have no manuals on this creature and can't get it to operate without an alert tone and this error displayed.
What is the error code and how can I resolve it?

FAIL 001 - Synth out of lock.
You either have a bad VCO, Bad PA, leaky caps on the PA, or a frequency way out of the operating spec of the radio..
There are a couple other causes, but they aren' coming to mind right now.

Could also be other dead things on the RF board. Bad caps, electrolyte-eaten traces, etc. I had this problem too. Replaced all electrolytic caps on RF board. Still wouldn't go away. Found out that I replaced a bad cap with another bad cap. RRR!!!! Took days to figure that one out.
Rule learned, check your new parts to make sure they work before using them.
