SP50 telemetry

Post by fawest »

What does 3 short beeps when you release the PTT mean? I have a couple here and they both do it.

Thanks

is it anything like the low battery chirp you hear on many moto radios?

might be an aftermarket board on the radio too, i've never heard of an sp50 doing that before but i know they'll beep after PTT when the battery is starting to run low

Thats what I was thinking, but I have hooked them up to a power supply and they still do it. I'm charging up an almost new battery to see if the beeps go away. Thanks for the comeback!

no problem

also did you try looking at the inside of the radio to see if there were any special boards inside? anything unusual showing up in the software?

Yup, I've opened up both radios and there are no "suprise" boards inside. Good try though Jason! Thanks

Yup, like already stated sounds like the low battery chirp. Before releasing the PTT take a look at the TX light, if it's blinking rather than
glowing steady that would confirm the low battery condition. Or in your case the power supply not providing enough voltage or current.

Strangely enough I've heard of this on a few SP50 radios before. I don't know much about how they work inside, but perhaps the circuit that senses the battery voltage has gone insane and is always thinking the battery is dead? Isn't there a way to disable low battery beeps?

You should be able to change the Alerts setting in the RSS. I think it has Battery Warning Lights, Beep, Both or none. Or something like that. While we are on the topic of SP50's, I have a couple of 10 channel SP50 Compacts that I picked up the other day. To my suprise, scan is not an option in the RSS. It that a version issue with the radio? Or do the VHF not scan? I have a rental fleet of UHF that all do, I was suprised that it has no mention of it at all in the RSS. SP50 v 2 on DOS.
