MCS2000 shows Fail 01

The failure codes for the MCS2000 are the same as the MTS series as this model is the mobile 'companion' to the MTS portables.
Fail 001: Synthesizer out of lock. Bad frequency data in codeplug; defective synthesizer
Fail o1/81: FATAL; External ROM/Flash checksum error
Fail 01/82 External EEPROM checksum error (FATAL)
The display will either spell out 'fail', or indicate that condition with a simple letter, followed by the failure code/s.

Were there any other numbers following the first error message?
Instead of 'F01', did the display also indicate additional information such as F01/81, F01/82...Etc....?
If so, this will also be of use in diagnosing the actual trouble area, and what it's actually realted to within the radio/controller assy.

Just a quick question. Is this the MCS that was on ebay? If not, I saw one with the exact same thing. The display said FAIL 01.
Just wondering, have you tried to read the radio at all?
I'm wondering with the display just showing FAIL 01 and not the regular codes like FAIL 001, FAIL 01/93, FAIL 01/82, try to read the radio to see if the previous owner just thought it may be funny to put FAIL 01 as the channel alias.
I've run into a few people on a local repeater that have put FAIL 001 as their SOFT ID on their astro radios and scare the living heck out of me when I see that come up on MY display.
Just a thought.

MCS2000 Fail 01
I will try to get another control head to see if it works with the other one but I doubt that the problem will be in the head...
