strange defect in Saber 2

I have a saber 2 that has a strange defect. (H43QXJ7139CN)

I've programed the radio with a few freqenties but it doesn't receive or transmits. After pushing and releasing the PTT button for several times (count differs from time to time) it will work after a while but only on 1 of the 4 entred channels. If the freq of channel 1 and 2 are switcht the problems moves from one channel to the other.
So I don't think the channel selector is the problem, however if the channel is changed and turned back the problem starts over again.
Once it working it will keep working as long as the channel selector is not touched.
When I program the side tone it sounds the 'no tx' sound upon pressing the PTT button.
It looks like it needs to heat up before working..... ??

Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong with this radio ??

It sounds like it's programmed out of range of the VCO. I've had them do that when they have the wrong modules and the VCO locks intermittently.

I'm not sure if I should be the first one to start guessing where the problem might be due to my lack of techical knowledge of Sabers in general.

However, based on your description of symptoms, I would suspect that your Saber might be programmed out of band and one of the programmed frequencies is too far from its operable area.

Of course there might be a defected vco or something else.. Has it ever worked on that frequency in question? What freqs do you have programmed in it and what kind of bandsplit does your saber show on RSS?

It's VHF saber and the working (after a while) freq is 148,3300 but 149,0250 doesn't work at all.
So the freq are within the bandwith but the Khz might be a bit off.....

If the VFO is defect , doen's that mean it won't work at all and not start working after pressing the PTT several times ???
During the time it does'n transmit when pressing the PTT it does effect the computer monitor upon PTT for a short time.
So it looks like it want to send but gets blocked and after several tries does it after all........

You may want to read this thread carefully, as the problem might be
with the channel selector switch which is actually a binary
switch:

What bandsplit does the RSS say the radio is and what is the part number of your VCO?

I also fig that the channel selector migth be the problem but after changing the programming from zone to channel but the problem stayed.

The RSS says it's 146-162Mhz. I'm not sure where the VCO is located so I a few pic;s might help.

The VFO is the synthsizer. Its the largest module on the bottom above the secure module. It looks like you took the top cover off of it. If your radio is a true 146-162 the module part # would be NLD8210 uless somone did a switch and put the lower freq module and forced a mid split codeplug into it.
