another HT 1250 question

Post by Pmedic78 »

sorry to bother you all again but have another question. I have searched but not really found the answer.

I have an HT1250 full keypad. It don't seem to pick up very far (15 miles at the most) or transmit very far.(3 miles if I am lucky) I have the squelch on normal but it don't seem to pick up things very far away. . this is not good as I work for an ambulance that covers 640 square miles. I can at times be over 25 miles from dispatch. I do not expect to transmit that far at least until we get repeaters in the trucks (this winter I hope) but I should be able to hear them. our Radius radios are able to hear as well as my minitor V pager. I am rambling sorry

I was told I could have an old bad antenna. I look at the bottom and see a brown plastic washer up at the top of the threads. I was told brown is bad that it should be black. So I need a new antenna which one do I need as there seems to be way to many.

My freq range is 154.205 all the way up to 159.150 what is the best antenna to get for my needs? Sorry for the long post any info would be greatly appriciated

Brown covers that range 150-168 or so. Sounds like it needs a good aligning service performed on it. Have your local MRSS shop check its alignment and power output. Or send it to one of us techs.

If it's the original tapered antenna that's thicker at the bottom and tapers down thinner towards the top, get rid of that. Try getting one of the "GP300" style VHF whips.

= GOOD

You'll notice a difference.

I forgot to mention that if its not the tapered one.

I have somewhere in the range of 50 GP300 style vhf ones I use on 148-174mhz range portables. If you need any let me know.
