DOS(delay of squelch) timer...

Post by Sergey »

Hello everyone!

I'm playing with HT1250/HT1550 and wondering about some details of DOS settings....
DOS Auto Mute Duration selects the amount of time that the radio is muted once Carrier Squelch is detected. This DOS timer is then active while receiving MDC Signaling data, this helps to reduce unwanted noise.
In reality, this timer is muting just PTT ID which is shortest MDC packet(about 175ms) and can not hide complitely the long kind of calls(SelCall, Call Alert...275ms) I'm still able to hear short tail of those calls with any settings of DOS timer....

Would you suggest something about how would I hide any first burst complitely?

Thank you!

When I use DOS it always eliminates the god-awful MDC burst that I so hate and only allows me to hear a tiny little beep.

DOS is mainly for the receiving radios so they don't have to hear the MDC burst.

Not sure what else you're asking.

if the receiving radio's have the rx system set to mdc and the DOS is set up right you will not hear any PTT id on Pre PTT id and a short burst on post PTT id.

Yep. It's one of those features that I'd LOVE to see scanner manufacturers put in their new models.

I can't stand hearing MDC.

DOS holdoff is the time until the start of an MDC transmision. Once the radio detects MDC it will remain muted it's self for the rest of the MDC. Does not matter how long it is.
There was an issue with older firmware (before 05.05.17 I think), that on PL channels that if you had the mic off hook, it would defeat the DOS holdoff and all data would be heard. It was fixed recently. now with mic off hook all data is still muted.

problem with dos squelch

I don't mind the mdc burst .... better than having dos squelch (even set to 100ms) and missing the beginning of conversations.

I have never missed any part of the conversation. You must not have it set up correctly or something.
