mt 1000 repair

Post by racerman1cars »

I have a uhf Mt-1000 16 freq no matter where the freq switch is it is on F1. I had the switch changed and I replaced the flex controller and still the same. what else could be the culprit?

Check the programming. Does it really have 16 different pairs in it ?

If you bought it used, someone may have wiped it clean.

I also have seen where an agency will have only the first two pairs, and the remainder repeat F2. No reason to think they couldn't have bought a 16-ch radio and only used one pair, replicated across the other 15.

When the switch was replaced, did they change JUST the switch or the switch AND the FLEX INTERFACE?

Hi Dave, A little history I got the radio from a friend he said it would change channels, he said the switch might be the problem, when I got it from him I programmed it thinking he didn't have it programmed right. well it was programmed right, so I told a guy the switch was bad and he replaced it, but when I got it back it did the same thing, I had a good 16 freq controller I put this in and programmed it to the freqs I needed but it still only tx/rx on channel 1. I hope I wasn't too long winded, but I thought I should tell everything so you might pick up on something I might have done. I guess worst case I will use it as a 1 freq radio [lol]. Steve

I would look for a short across the switch, it's a B.C.D arrangement and if a lead is shorted, be it the switch itself or the flex, then you may only be able to use a single channel no matter where the selector is rotated.

Check for a break in the flex all the way from the controller to the switch itself, there has to be something wrong there, or the switch was somehow improperly oriented on the flex....

It sounds like just the switch was replaced. I'm betting that the flex interface is bad. The switch has 5 connections on J1 of the controller module. Pin 15 is your 5 V line. Pin 14 (or A) is for 1, pin 7 is 2 (or B), pin 10 is 4 (or C) and pin 8 is 8 (or D). You can check this with a multimeter.

Hi Dave, you are correct just the switch was replaced not the flex, I guess the flex from a Ht-600 won't work?? Steve

An HT600 selector will not work in a 16 channel MT1000 as the HT600 is only a 6 channel radio, and most of the swithes I have had for that radio will not allow rotation to those 10 'extra' channels..

This must be the one i worked on?

I replaced the channel selector and ohmed everything out, the switch looked good and i didn't find anything wrong with the flex, thought it was the controller but i didn't have any spare parts and my programming cable was out on loan.

My guess, might still be the flex.
