Spectra programming Error 81

Post by kdean7 »

Is anyone familiar with:
error number 81 has occured: Can not access the Ext Secrity Housing Consult Manual for list of error codes and possible solutions.

I do not have any external device connected to the radio. Is there anyway "reset" this or get around it? It is a spectra dashmount A7.
Thanks.

It normally means that it used to have a ASN attached. Did you used to be able to read it?

If so during programming, the external security device may have been turned on.

As far as I know, the only way to be able to read it, would be to attach a ASN to the radio.

Also, what kind of programming setup do you have, is it factory rib, etc.?

I have no ASN

I purchased the radio from someone else. It did not come with an ASN.
I have a factory rib and programming cable.

The only other suggestion I would have is, to clone another codeplug with the same model number as yours into it. Or (and I'm not sure of this one) you may be able to bypass it if you have LAB.

Are these normal Spectra radios or do they have the
SIU (serial interface units) and the HHCH (hand held
control head) with the radios?

As time goes on, more and more of the surplus
government versions of these radios are finding their
way onto the used market. The major problem is that
most of these used government radios had a dual radio
setup at one point in their life. In this dual radio
configuration, they also had the security encryption box
attached. Without this box attached, it is real hard to
get the radio out of this error.
