I want to set up a backup VHF repeater. I have 2 CDM750's. Do I need a RICK to make it a repeater or can the radios be wired directly together? If they can be wired directly what is the pinout configuration?
Thanks

You are going to need some sort of COR type device in order to get a repeater set-up out of the two radios.
I have heard stories about people running through their radios with a volt meter and service monitor to find a spot that pulls low in order to trigger the PTT sense on the other radio.
However, if you want to do it right, which if it is a back-up you need to then use a R.I.C.K., COR, or some other sort of Repeater maker for the radios.
Also remember that the radios you are using and not designed for continous/heavy duty use. So if it is a back-up for a heavy use/duty machine then I would think about maybe either using a more heavy duty radio for transmit or backing down the power.
Good luck.

Don't forget that you need to have some control over
the transmitter on time. The simplest way is to set the
transmitter time out timer to something fairly short.
Like 60 seconds. This will attempt to save the transmitter
from overheating and doing a self destruct from long
winded talkers.
You will probably want some form of audio level control
to be able to set the throughput deviation of the repeater
setup.

- What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's
i spent $10 on a repeater maker cable on ebay for my backup and it works great, adjustable level and hang time too. and to set the radios up just use the drop down boxes and set them for rick tx and rick rx.
