HT1250 and HT1550 Question

Post by sourapple613 »

Ive looked everywhere and I am going crazy.
Can anyone tell me if the HT1250 and/or HT1550XLS is type approved to transmit on MURS Frequencies?? As long as it is only used with TX with 2 watts of power it is legal correct?
If you could also show me where you got your information it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Technically, no good. Radio must be limited to 2 watts without provisions to increase power past that level. Both radios mentioned are 'capable' of 5 watts and have that level listed as part of their FCC certification.
47 CFR Part 95 is where you can find reg's. on MURS.

Thats correct it would be illegal. Now the question is who is enforcing it? Go to any HAMFEST, how many have radios programmed with FRS Freqs....More than one. How many GMRS/FRS Combo radios get sold where the end user uses GMRS Freqs even though they are not licensed for them. There are hundreds of thousands of violations occuring each and every day. Very few of these violations ever face any sort of enforcement action. Just look at the FCC website....

Use your own judgement. Hey at least you are using a good type accepted radio and not a piece of junk from China or Korea.

What radios do you own?: Motorola FR50!

Agreed... Who is going to know? Who is going to care?

My money says no one, especially with the way the GMRS bubble-pack radios are not being enforced.
