Continuous Alert Tone with Minitor IV, R168, Windows PPS

Post by murpht3 »

Well my original post was deleted by the moderator as I guess my intention was misunderstood...so I will try this again more explicitly.

I was asking if the DOS version of the Minitor 4 pager programming software is still available legally (i.e., through Motorola). I know that it has since been replaced by the Windows PPS version, which I have access to. I am not asking for somebody to sell it to me or anything against board rules.

The reason why I am asking is because I have been attempting to get the procedure to work which WB2IID described at http://batboard.batlabs.com/viewtopic.p ... highlight= whereby you can program the Minitor IV in R168 programming mode with 4 2-tone alert groups, 3 of which sound an interrupted tone alert, and 1 of which sounds a continuous alert tone. From what I understand from Joe's posts, this is only possible with the DOS version of the program. I do have access to the Windows PPS version which has since replaced this old DOS version. I haven't been able to get this tone grouping to work under the Windows version. I tried to get in touch with WB2IID to see if he has heard of any success with this procedure in the Windows version, with no luck.

So does anybody know if this old DOS version is still available to obtain from Motorola? If not, does anybody know of any other procedure to get a continuous alert tone with the Minitor IV using the Windows PPS programming software?

Thanks!

In my experience with the Min IV, the only way to get the pager to decode with a continuous tone is with a single group call tone, not a two-tone page. In reading the thread you attached, it sound like they are programming the pager with different tone sets by turning the pager off and on again during programming which I do not recomend.
Smile--it could always be worse!

Yeah, I know that there is this option under the R168 programming mode. We are working with Minitor IV's so I was trying to find a workaround...changing the dispatch tones on the desk would be a nightmare. I haven't had much luck locating the old DOS version from any retailers so we might be out of luck until we can purchase the Minitor V's.

captrgm: You do NOT turn the pager on/off DURING programming, only after programming is complete. Cycling power during programming would of course be double-plus ungood.

This results in "bricking" of HTs and mobile radios. What would the equivalent be for pagers? Skipping stones? Plumb bobs? Christmas ornaments?
