Does anyone tried to replace a A5 head on a Spectra dash mount for A7 head like described on batlabs ?

You need to edit the "Control Head Type" value. See bottom of page http://www.k2jsv.com/spectra/

Yes, after hex editing.

Must the actual head type in the model/ID number match the head type byte in memory?

Does anything get decided or configured differently if these two things don't match?

Does the programming software care about the head type in the model/ID number, or does it rely solely on the head type byte?

I was able to change an A9 to an A7 by hex-editing only the head type byte, but should I have also changed the data in model number to match?

This question might have been asked several times, but I've never seen a definitive answer. That may be because one does not exist.

Thanks.

No, but it plays hell with cloning.

Not that I have seen.

Does a little bit of both, but as far as the radio is concerned the control head type is what the software looks for when deciding what to allow you to configure.

See above.

These are not necessarily definitive, but from my own experimentations and dinkin around with Spectras.

And VX... thx for the nod there. I appreciate it. Unfortunatley that link will not be valid at some point, in my spare time I have been rolling some pages like that on my site into the Wordpress pages I have. Once I do that I will provide the new link and put up a page referer.

Thanks. I haven't had to clone one yet, so perhaps having the model/ID number inside the radio agree with the sticker on the back, even though neither matches the current configuraion (was trunk-mount A9, now is dash-mount A7), is probably better than me mucking with more stuff and taking the chance of making a brick out of it.

Spectra A5 to A7

I did all the procedure but after fixing the fail error the radio reset goes to self check and it transmits by itself...

Anyone knows what's wrong ?

Did you change the control head or interconnect board?

Try swapping the head and interconnect board as an assembly and see if that makes it work any better.

You have an interconnect and control head board mismatch. If you started with an a5 you DO NOT need to change out the control head board.
