Need Help Connecting Zetron Model 35A To My Spectra Mobile

Post by spongeboob101 »

Could anyone out there tell me how to connect my Motorola Spectra Mobile (D45ZXA5JC7AK) to a Zetron Model 35A microconnect. I want to use it as a phone patch for the mobile units on the road.

Just wondering if anyone out there knows how to connect the actual Spectra Mobile to the Zetron Modle 35 unit (cable diagram, schematics, etc...)

Thanks

What radios do you own?: APX4K, XTL5K, NX5200, NX700HK

I constructed one to work with a Zetron model 30. The model 30 is a simplex phone patch, I don't know if the 35 is made for and can be configured to work as such. If you're looking to set it up as a repeater though, that would be another story.

configuration is very straight forward through the 15 pin connector on the rear, a COR is required and can be created using a 10k resistor, and a transistor connected to one of the speaker leads.

If you give me more info, I can give you more info.

Thanks for your reply. A copy of the Zetron 35A specs can be found at

http://www.zetron.com/data/site/content ... 20Spec.pdf

The connections on the back of the Zetron 35A include; Recieve Audio, PTT, Transmit Audio, auxillary input, auxillary relay output, power, ground, telephone line.

The specs say that it is a telephone interconnect designed for use with simplex, half duplex and full duplex radio networks. I'm sure that it can connect to the Spectra somehow through the 15 pin connetor on the rear. I you could tell me which of the connections on the back of the unit that I have to connect to the Spectra's 15 pinn connector to make it work, I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks

It should be a cakewalk if you can do a little simple soldering and locate a 15 pin 'D' connector.

You'll need to power it externally, if it accepts 12vdc then use the split off from the power cable or ignition sense 12v input to run it, or perhaps even pin 4 for radio switched on/off operation.

From there you'll only need the Ground, COR, TX audio, RX audio (from discriminator), and PTT to work the radio with the phone patch.

Anything on the patch that indicates "-" polarity can be grounded, for instance how there's an "TX aud+" and "TX aud-" on it.

From batlabs, the 15 pin rear connector has the following built into it, froim which you simply wire that to the Zetron:

Pin 1 TX audio
Pin 4 12v+
Pin 5 ignition sense
Pin 8 ground/common -----------> Pin 2 and 8 get connected for emergency swith
Pin 11 filtered discriminator audio
Pin 13 PTT

You can get a 'COR' from either speaker lead, 6 or 7 which has 5 volts running on it, in reference to ground, when audio is not being passed through them. You can connect a 10k resistor to a transistor's base pin, connect the emitter to the pin 8 ground and the collector side to the COR. You can use either PNP or NPN, but the COR "active high" or "active low" switch will have to be altered for proper operation.

I am not totally sure about the 15 pin connector options on the regular analog spectra. Some SMD jumpers may have to be altered on the command board, but I am not sure. I did the mods on my Astro Spectra to interface it with a Zetron model 30 a couple months ago. It worked fine with my Analog Spectra w/o modding though.

---also---

As far as that auxillary relay is concerned, it is just that, auxillary. If you have an external piece of equipment you want turned on or off via phone or radio (both by DTMF) you can set it up that way. My '30 is setup so when it's connected to my CDM1250, I can enter monitor mode as-needed, but the spectra doesn't have that option on the connector.

Thanks...that helps me out a lot. The only remaining question is what should the ohm/wattage for the transistor be? Thanks.
