Mostar woes!
I'm trying to program a 2 channel UHF Mostar using Mike's MIB and the original Mostar RSS. When trying to write to the radio I get a "Location 0000H did not program" error. Can't seem to write to the radio using Mike's software either.
Bad EEPROM? Do I now have an antique Motorola doorstop?

The "Location 0000H did not program" error usually means that one of the switches on the front panel pressed in, or there is something pulling one of the inputs to eeprom down.
Check the switches, and try to reprogram it a couple of times. Also check the radio, sometimes the radio will take the program info and still gives the 0000h error code.

Oh what a joyous piece of equipment to try to work with! No wonder so many people consider the word "Mostar" to be a harsh obscenity.Andy Brinkley wrote:The "Location 0000H did not program" error usually means that one of the switches on the front panel pressed in, or there is something pulling one of the inputs to eeprom down.

Ok I double checked the button. There's only one and it's out. Reset the radio and wore my F8 button out trying repeatedly, and still no go.
Is there any chance this radio expects a microphone to be plugged in and the PL monitor grounded before it will program?
It's not taking the programming, as when I disconnect the programmer and reset the radio, all it does is make a fast siren type sound.

The conventional Mostars are actually pretty decent radios after you get past the programming. The don't care if the mike is plugged in or not.
The siren sound indicates corrupt codeplug data.
Try dumping the archive of the radio back into it and see if it brings it back to life. Also make sure that you have the correct model selected in the software.
I have seen this error many times when there is something on the command board that is pulling the addresses of the eeprom down and won't let it program. The easiest way around this problem is to pull the eeprom and put it in another radio and program it, then swap it back.

Tried that and it didn't like it much either so at this point I'm about to go back to playing with my more modern radios for awhile. I think I've got like $5 invested in this radio so if it doesn't work it's no big loss. I'll try swapping eeproms if I ever come across another one of these.Andy Brinkley wrote:The conventional Mostars are actually pretty decent radios after you get past the programming. Something that's kinda inconsistent with everything I've read about these radios that I was wondering about: This is a 2 channel "NVR" radio, yet the programming connector is the 26 pin, for the "large" eeproms. Is there anything unusual about that?

Still a no go. I've got a nice siren if I were to hook it up to a loudspeaker, thoughAndy Brinkley wrote:I think you have found the problem.
Go back to the software and select the 2 channel display model in the software, not the NVR model. The NVR models used a different eeprom and are easily distinguished by the red color of the command board.

Alright man appreciate it. Right now I really have no need for the radio. I just finally got ahold of a means to program the buggers and was tinkering.Andy Brinkley wrote:If all else fails drop the eeprom in the mail to me and I'll program you a couple of channels at no charge.
I still have a Delta and a Maratrac to send to you sometime after the holidays, though, if you're not too backed up.
