XTS5000 Dust Cover

Does anyone know the part number and where I can buy the dust cap/cover for my XTS5000. My old cover from the mts2000 does not fit this radio. The one for the XTS5000 looks like it is just plastic and does not have the hole for the antenna to slide over. I have looked for hours and can not find one anywhere. Thanks everyone!!

You can actually take a Jedi dust cover and make it fit the XTS. Some precision work with an xacto knive if all you need. If you want I can take some pics of the ones I did. I don't like the XTS covers because they're too bloody hard to remove - can't just pop 'em off with your thumb like the Jedi covers.

If that doesn't suit your boat, I probably have one kicking around here that I could mail out.

I tried the modification. Didn't like it. I don;t use a shoulder mic so once the cover is on it will be there until they take the radio away from me. If you have an extra shoot me a PM. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

I do not like those covers at all, especially in humid or salty environment they make things just worse. Have seen lots of radios with corroded pads under the covers, because water gets in and does not get out any more - the electricity does the rest :(
All my priavte own radios are used without any covers at all. The connectors are still shiny and give good contact for programming or speaker mic.

Just out of curiosity ... couldn't water cause a short between pads in the first place? ... I would *THINK* such a short would be or rather, could be bad.

Not really a short, but of course some current flows. When no cover is used the humidity can dry away soon or eben is wiped away in daily use - but not so when a cover is over it.

I leave the accessory cap off all my secure radios. Taking it off every time I keyload is a :o.
