well think about it. If i was to go and tell you that i traded a fully loaded keypad UHF HT1250LS+ "7an" for a VHF HT750...what would you think? Both parties recieved something they needed, and parted with something they could not use. If you look at it monitarily, the UHF was the higher value and should have gone for than a measley 750, but that's what the deal was. The term "best deal" is used rather freely to describe what the total outcome was, not money value or currency equivalency.
MTX950 900 Mhz already converted to ham for $100 - with new OEM battery and antenna. Condition 9/10.
Got it at Dayton Hamvention - works great
900Mhz ham gear is sorta rare.
New TK-850 repeater and duplexer for a 5 year old excellent condition 36"Sony Wega which the TV's value is maybe $400 these days. I was about to throw the TV out, when this deal came around. I valued the TV at $0.00 because I can't stand to watch 480i anymore after getting a plasma. 480i TV's now actually give me a headache after watching them for more than 45 minutes.
How about an Impres 1850mAh li-ion Battery for XTS series for 30 bucks - new. I thought that was a great deal from ebay.

How about the day I walked into a pawn shop and spotted what was
labeled by them as a 99 ch Motorola CB radio. Asked about charger
and mic etc and they looked around a bit and could not find one.
Batt was dead so I could not test and I argued the point. Talked them
down from $85 to $65 due to that and the date code on their tag told
me it had been on the shelf about 4 months. I paid and walked out
with my nice clean (8.5 of 10) VHF JT1000 !!!

I remember a guy describing that exact same deal to me on the radio once. You ever get on the 443.6 or 443.45 machines?phrawg wrote: I paid and walked out

To date, my best deal was a "Motorola Spectra CB Radio" from Ebay that turned out to be an E7 radio; fugly on the outside, but cherry on the inside. Paid all of $85 for it.

FOUND AS3
Years ago a security guard came to me with a "stung" AS3. He knew I was a ham & would know something about this. I gave him a decent Yaesu dualbander I had picked up for $75. I brought it to a buddy who unstung it. I sold the radio to a friend for $1600. He took it to his friend who made it imbe [it was vselp] & programmed it. It was then sold to a tow company for $2400 to listen to their local PD. The security guard who seemed honest, assured me he didn't steal the radio. He said he found it in a field. He was clean cut & didn't look like a druggie. I believed he was truthful. That was my best deal. GARY N4KVE
EBAY, HT1250 UHF 403-470 with accessories. Still had the protective sticker the display. The guy had two, I got one for a buy it now of $160

A pair of 100% legit XTS5000 Model 2's with good flash, and encryption boards for $1050. The guy on ebay listed 'em as "Secure Motorola Comms"
An other member and myself still own the pair.
They've got fairly current firmware [850 modes] and with a new housing, look perfect.
I'm always changing the collection around- so an other story might be in the making...

Re: Best motorola radio deal/trade you have done and why ! !
Not moto gear, but the best deal I have ever made was 1992 in Hamburg (Germany). At a local ham dealer the owner told me about a box of commercial radios, from the manufacturer SEL, produced end 70s or begin 80s. He had no use for them and gave me the box for about 25 US$.fly_on_the_wall wrote:Just something that might be interesting to others, what is the best deal/trade you have done with any motorola gear
Then I had to do with another dealer, asked him if he could need the radios. He got somehow excited, and said, "well, would be 1500 US$ OK for you?" For sure I even would have been able to negotiate a bit and get some more money, but I kept cool, pretendet do think a moment about it and said, "let us make the deal".

Just a tip about buying a radio that someone "found." Other than in perhaps kindergarten, "finders = keepers" isn't the law. In most states this is called "theft of found property" and is a crime. With the value of any of the newer Motorola HT's, it's also a felony. If it hasn't been reported stolen, nobody is going to care, but if it has, things get ugly.
When I used to work in the cellular business, rarely a week went by that some dim-bulb didn't show up with a phone shown on our system as lost/stolen, wanting a service activation and a charger. It was always the same story, either 1) they "paid good money for it at a flea market" so "it was theirs now," or 2) they "found it on the sidewalk" so "it was theirs now." The police never did seem to be impressed with that logic, and the courts weren't either.

I can't decide between these:
UHF 438-470 full DTMF GP300, new case, new speakermic, new aftermarket NiMH battery, new whip antenna, new slow charger, used DTMF belt case, programmed and shipped, for $150.
or
New, recent date coded HNN9628B (actual OEM) for what at the time I think was $35 GBP->USD conversion, shipped.

hmm
How about a mtr2000 vhf 100watt base station, 32 channel maxtrac vhf,3 tone remotes for free. Customer doesnt want it cause they dont use it. Nothing wrong with asking for it. hehe.plus like 12 brand new nmo mount kits. Another mans junk is another mans treasure.

I have a couple.
Orlando Hamfest, back in 95 or 96 I guess. The good slant back JEDI rapid chargers. Some guy had a whole box of them. I bout 10 of them for $100.
Pawn shop. Motorola CB. Was a Motorola JT1000. $75 The battery was even good!
Business auction. Again, Motorola CBs. Was told they did not work because the system got sold to SouthernLinc. Ended up being a box of about 25 UHF high power 32 Ch Maxtrac Mobiles. Then there were 2 UHF HT1000 handhelds in there too. $150 for the whole box!
Those kinda good deals do come now-and-then. The Maxtrac "event" alone paid for all kinda goodies that year thru selling or trading them off.
