Spectra Ignition Sense in RSS

Post by Dennis »

I have a remote mount mid power A-4 head that I want to ignition sense the siren unit. I have the green wire to the battery and the orange to ignition sense. I do not want the radio itself on ignition sense but can't find this option in the rss. Other posts have said it's in the radio wide area of the rss but I only find the PTT option.
Any and all help appriciated.

Ignition sense with a rear-mount Spectra is not done by RSS but by the green and orange wires, per a matrix in the Spectra Installation manual. I don't recall all of the combinations from memory.

The green wire is for battery positive, the orange wire is for ignition sense. That works ok, the problem is I want the siren on ignition sense and the radio not. Maybe this isn't possible.

According to the installation manual, you have three choices:

Both Green and Red to battery (i.e., full time power): "no ignition switch control."

Red to battery and Green to switched source: "Xmtr ignition switch controlled."

Both Red and Green to switched source: "Complete radio ignition switch controlled."

"Note: in cases where alternator whine or interference is a problem, isolate the green lead with a relay." (The diagram shows a relay the coil of which is pulled in by the ignition switch, but when pulled in runs the green wire directly to the battery.)

There are some options in the control head depending on the circuit board revision.

The siren box gets it's on signal from the Spectra when it powers up.
I do not think there is an easy way to enable the Siren only with IGN.

But I will look at some of my notes to see if there IS a way.

If so, it would prevent anyone from running the siren without the key.
Every time one of the FED cars had to go to the car dealer, I pulled the 'green lead'.
