What radios do you own?: XTS 5000 to Mocom

Vertex 510L

Post by PropellorHead »

I know this is the moto forum, but after the years of moto help I have gotten on this board, I was hoping somebody out there was versed in Vertex stuff.

I usually only use moto radios, but i needed an inexpensive low band HT. So I got a VX-510L.

I have the proper software for the 510 (CE-21), and the proper cable (serial to a 3.5mm jack with 3 bands)...I plug it into the ear jack on the portable...and when I try to read it from the RSS i get a message that says "problem detected with connection to interface box." I'm using an old Gateway comp, which programs my moto's perfect.

Am I doing something wrong here? Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanx!

This may sound funny, but try a faster computer and boot it up with a dos startup disk (not windows Dos prompt) and see if that works. Some of the Vertex radio's were really touchy on serial port speed (be it slow or fast).

I have a UHF 510 and did the same thing on three IBM Thinkpad 360's running true blue IBM DOS 6. turned out the serial port configuration was sharing an IRQ with the IR port, and the CE-21 is apparently interrupt driven. Also, the factory cable has an adapter that takes your 3.5mm jack down to a mono 2.5mm plug which actually plugs in the MIKE jack not the speaker, this may be your problem.
