issues with an Added Zone to an HT1250

Post by mmtstc »

Seeing as how i have yet to get around to contacting moto to get myslef a liscensed copy of Pro Series CPS, I still get the joy of visiting (and paying)my Moto dealer when i have to get my HT1250 programmed.

I recently moved and my last dealer programmed my radio so that i had about 8 zones and for each zone I can program a unique scan list (zone A had its own scan list which was different form the scan list for Zone B, Etc.). When i moved down to my new area of residence, i had to add a new zone for the different region of the EMS i work for now, but i also had to get a new Moto dealer as I am not driving 3 hours to get my 1250 programmed. When they added that zone in, my radio lost the ability to have zone specific scan lists, and now has a global scan list. I also have priority scan screwed up now which i am guessing is associated with the scan list issue, but when i have scan on, and my radio scans to the County PD VHF rebroadcast of the Digital TRS, it will stay on that channel regardless of traffic on my dispatch channel or the selected channel.

When i navigate to change the Priority, it goes something like this...
"Scan List" ->
"Edit Priority?" ->
"Priority #1?" -> will populate with "Pri #1 Saved" or "Disabled" and no further options are given
"Priority #2?" will only populate with "List Empty"

Seeing as how you all are the kings of knowledge on Moto and programming, Is this a typical issue with adding on channels to a HT1250 or did my new dealer really Mess thigns up for me? I am going try and get it taken in next week, btu i have no intention of looking like an even bigger buffoon than i already am so if anyone has any pointers, they would be appreciated. And also, should i expect to pay them to have them fix somthing that i suspect they screwed up or should a reputable Moto dealer do this for free?

In case this helps, i am running a aah25kdh9aa6an with firmware r05.09.11.

If you all have any other questions, let me know because i would really like to have my radio function as it should.

did you specify you wanted to be able to do that and leave everything else alone? it's an easy fix and it's definately not screwed up but programmers are not mind readers and they probablly just added the frequencies. but if you did specify it that way then i think they should have to fix it and make it right.

but then why would all of the pre-existing systems be screwed up also?

i can't tell you that, i wasn't there and i didn't see it but it sounds like he just added a pre existing scan list to the new zone as to where he should of added another scan list. like i said it's not a difficult fix it just gets to be difficult when everyone wants something different and most of the time people don't know how to ask for what they want. just take it back and explain it's not what you wanted.

Ht1250's are a pain to program...

Each frequency pair (channel) is a personality. To each personality you can assign a scan list, signaling scheme (MDC, QCII, etc), unmute rules, etc. The scan lists & signalling schemes have to exist before you can assign them. Once you've created the personalities, then you take and assign each personality to a zone.

When you create a scan list, you have to set it up for what type of scan options you want per scan list. The options are:

fixed list no priority
user programmable list no priority
fixed single priority with fixed list
fixed single priority with user programmable list
priority one fixed, priority two user programmable with fixed list
priority one fixed, priority two user programmable with user programmable list
selected channel single priority with fixed list
selected channel single priority with user programmable list
selected channel priority one, fixed priority two, fixed list
selected channel priority one, fixed priority two, user programmable list
selected channel priority one, user programmable priority two, fixed list
selected channel priority one, user programmable priority two, user programmable list
user programmable priority one, user programmable priority two, fixed list
user programmable priority one, user programmable priority two, user programmable list

Whew! I think that about covers it.

The channels you want to be your priority channels have to be in the scan list before you can assign it to priority.

If I had to guess, whomever programmed your radio wasn't 100% up on the nuiances of setting up the scan, saw all the duplicate scan lists, didn't understand what you were doing & erased them to make it "more user friendly".

So basically what you want to do is have them create a scan list for groups of 16 personalities - personalities 1-16 are assigned to scan list 1, personalities 17-32 are assigned to scan list 2, etc.

The scan lists should be setup as this:

User programmable priority one, user programmable priority two, user programmable scan list.

When you get your radio back then you can go in there and set up each scan list and then assign the priority like you want.

Have fun explaining that one!

I'd see if your last dealer has a copy of your codeplug, and have them email it to you. Then take that and be very specific with your new guy and go from there.
