spectra VHF codeplug needed please.

spectra VHF codeplug needed please.
Hi All
I have just inherrited a VHF Spectra whose model number is D41ZXA5JC7AK. -at least I think it's that, the label is a bit scratched.
When powered up it display fail 01/82 and sits there, I can't even read it!.
It is a dash mount 45w radio with a W7 head .
Does anyone have a compatiable codeplug that I can try in it to restore it back to life.
I am told that this version (hopefully) has smartzone/smartnet trun king.

Well, it's not a D41. My best guess because of the rest of the model number is that it will be a 403-430 radio, with Smartnet Trunking - mostly used by the US Government.
The 1 is lowband 29-50mhz, and I doubt that they ever made a low band version of the spectra. I know a good few people that would kill to get their hands on one.
01/82 usually means that the codeplug in it doesn't match what the radio is, or something is incorrect. Maybe a bitbang job gone bad?
My guess? someone was hacking around with it, found it was a 403-430 radio, decided they didn't want it, and sold it again. Also explains why you "inherrited" it.

Yeah I didn't think the model number looked quite right.
I've just done a bit of checking with the service manual and I am fairly sure that it is a VHF range 1.
Looking at the R.F bits and checking with the service manual I am farily sure it is a VHF Range 1 radio,the RX front end part number appears to confirm this.
Unfortunatley the radio exterior is cosmeticallly quite poor but looks fine inside.
I checked the model number again, it is the first bit that is scratched so I guess it may not be a '1'.

That still doesn't seem right. Most RX radios are D1X. We have a batch of 15 or so DC or Tone Remoted to a centracom system, and they all are D13's or D14's.
The mystery will end when you read the radio, providing it's not a hack like i'm beginning to suspect.
If you have lab go in with bitbanger and look at location 605F. This will reval the bandsplit of the radio as programmed:
61 = 136-164 MHz
62 = 146-174 MHz
63 = 403-433 MHz
64 = 438-470 MHz
65 = 450-482 MHz
66 = 806-870 MHz
67 = 896-941 MHz
68 = 482=512 MHz
You can simply type 605F and hit the up arrow (which will bring you to 6060, the control head type. CE is A9/B9/C9) and hit down again to make sure it pulls the correct value.
That might help. Even with an 01/82 you should be able to force a codeplug or at least check out the service manual.
Still, VHF C9 radios are very rare. I'll keep my money on a 403-430 Smartnet Spectra.

I am also having a simmular problem on a D34 VHF. I displays 438xxxx on the test channel 1 on the head's display, and if in RSS and the Service section, transmit power, ect;, it displays 217.xxx Mhz transmitter keyed on the computers screen. The transmitter is not accully keyed at all, not even a TX LED. I rechecked with our shop computer and got the same results.
The radio does transmitt ok on any programed channel 144 to 162 and the power, freq, and deviation are changed by the front panel and RSS service/alignment. I made a copy of the posts here and will look at those locations in the code plug.
Also this radio has a Astro RF board (IF & stnth) and does not even blow squelch, no output on pin four, receiver discriminator out put to the command board..busy LED on all the time except TX and chan change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am stumped this time???

That is probaly a D43KXA radio, like my D43KXA7JA3BK. I changed the command board and it now has correct audio and the beeps. Still has the wrong freqs in the alignment in RSS or front panel!!
When I changed the command I got the same Fail 01/82 and Fail998, just went to command board replacement and that cleared the fail codes.

Don't forget that the serial numbers all have to match inside the radio. The RSS (depending on the version) gives you the ability to make the serial numbers on the radio, MLM board and the digital control board all the same. If not, you will get an error message.
This probably is not the issue here, but thought I would throw it in for what it is worth. Have seen people change boards around and then wonder why the radio won't work. I have taken the digital control board and MLM board out of a UHF radio and put them into a VHF radio. You have to set all the software and serial numbers up, but it works just fine.
