How to change "TIME" key in RSS for Sys 9000 Head

Post by Leadenwah »

I've got several nice Systems 9000 control heads of the 1071 type and similar models ( not the 3 rocker switch type ) and they all work very well with my T83-A9's and T35-C9's. All the radios are Zoned.

My favorite feature is the " Zone - X " function which allows a one-touch access to the Zones.

The RSS allows me to use all of the top row and all of the numerical keys on the DTMF pad for " Zone - X ". However, for the asterisk ( * ) on the lower left of the DTMF pad, the RSS will not budge from the "TIME" assignment of that key.

Is this a job for LAB only or is there another way to change that key from "TIME" to something else, say, Zone-X or anything other than "TIME" which has no function at all for my radios ?

What radios do you own?: X9000, HT1550XLS, MTS2000, etc

Spectra button help

Post by George »

You have a good one there...a bit sticky as it were.

Depending upon how complicated your radios are to reprogram, I would first try reading your radio(s), saving the codeplug to disk, read the codeplug from disk and try to edit.

IF that doesn't allow you to edit the button in question, then I would convert the head to an X9000 head using the procedure on Mike's site, then write the head as an X9000 head with the proper buttons in place. Then read the head with Spectra and recreate all of your names, write the whole radio with Spectra and finally update your archive with Spectra.

IF that doesn't work, then I would get a fresh codeplug from that has the buttons in it the way you want them and overwrite your radio with the proper configuration, go back and reload all of your channels the way you want them and the way they are supposed to be for your system and THEN you should be okay.

There is no way to just edit one button and have it change like what you want unless the software will let you. You could also email me your codeplugs and I can have a look at them to see if I can help.

Other than that...welcome to Spectra!

George,

Thanks for your thoughts on editing "TIME" in the Sys 9000 head menu.

Well, I did read the radio and got the codeplug to work over, but it won't budge " TIME ". I think that converting the head to X9000 might be worth a shot if it will allow me to clone all the modes over.

This codeplug allows Zones with 250 modes and the radio take it which is pretty unusual so I don't want to have to go back and rewrite the whole plan if I can help it. I'll give the X9000 plan a try. I guess that I can fiddle with this as a codeplug since I've archived the original to a diskette.

I appreciate the thoughts and advice.

Ah, the wondeful world of the Spectra. I hate to see the Spectra pass from the scene. I guess if I get enough of the re-capped, they will live one for a while.

Geo.
