2002 Ford Explorer w/Sunroof Ant. question

Post by BigTex1136 »

OK I just bought a 2002 Explorer and it has a sunroof. I don't want to mount the ant. way it the back of the roof I would like to keep them closer to the front just to make the coax run. I have a VHF and UHF to install. I was thinking on the sides of the sunroof? Anyone have any extra tips or info. Thanks

i have an '02, and i would not even bother loooking any place other than the back 1/2 of the truck for a pair of antenna mounts anyways. The sunroof screws you, run the extra 4 feet of coax, it's rather simple in that truck anyways. Pull out the dome light fixtures (screw driver - (flat) in to the back outer halves of the lights, press forward, pull down)) gives you a bunch of room to run them. if you take out the ones over the 2nd and 3rd rows, you can cut across the roof to the B post area and run right down there.

put a good set of sticks up there, proper mount, and good coax...don't skimp, it will pay in the long run...what are you saving...8 bucks?

Another option is to use 'L' brackets on the hood area. I put one for a CB antenna on my 2000 explorer due to hieght restrictions of mounting it on the roof.

a CB antenna is probably the ONLY thing i would mount on an L bracket on my truck, i like my SWR to be low...i like my groundplane well established, and i don't really think a CB antenna is worthy of punching a hole in the exterior....

plus...it's a CB....

i understand the roof clearance concerns, but if i am going to go and spend the money a real lowband transciever, i am going to put the time and effort in to make sure that puppy is getting EVERYthing it needs...

and it's only a CB...

8) Well I didn't think a L bracket would look good. Always thought they were tackie in the front of a car. So I broke down and just put the ant. in the back. Does not look bad. I will be posting some pics later tonight after work. Thanks

I don't even give it an NMO antenna...it only gets a glass mount.
Do not make Sig angry...he'll just keep ringing the bell.
