STX Question...

Post by Glock-22 »

If this has been answered somewhere else, I apologize for duplicating it.

I am trying to find out the differences between 2 different STX model numbers. One is H35WKA5170DN and the other is H35STE5170CN. I found the breakdown of the H35WKA in the mannual, but the other I can't seem to find anywhere.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Charlie

I believe your 'WKA' is a STX821 It's been a while and I only messed with them a bit but I recall they had capabilities at lower frequencies (in the 820 area) which the standard STX didn't do.

True, the WKA is an 821, but the other one I don't have in hand. I was told by a source that the H35STE is compatible with our department's radios, but they were not sure about the H35WKA. I know the radios required are 800 MHZ, Type II trunking, which the WKA is.

More important than the model number is the controller firmware version. You want GPL-x.x or GPS-x.x. If it says "VER", "DUKE", NJSP" or anything else weird like that, it's Type 1-only. "REL" firmware will do Type 2, but won't support mixed-spacing systems.

The STX page on Batlabs explains how to get the firmware information from the radios, if you don't have a computer and RSS handy.
