Minitor V reset problems

I recieved my Minitor V dual/SV a week ago, I am the only one in the department with a minitor 5. I noticed the other day something weird happening with the pager. When my pager is in the selective call position and I get an alert, dispatch says there message, then keys out. There is a short delay then the carrier drops completely. Once the carrier drops I get squelch noise so I hit the reset button, and the squelching noise stops. The selector switch has not moved at all. After I press the reset button, I shouldnt be able to hear anyone that keys in a mic. But a few seconds later i start hearing units calling in service. That shouldnt happen.

So basically the pager is alerted, I hit the reset button after the carrier drops, it appears to reset, but if somone talks over the channel again, the pager pics it up.

Why won't it reset?

When you press the reset button, the pager is still in the record mode. When the recorder times out, the pager reverts to monitor mode as it is programmed to do. You need to reset it after the recording is done. I just had the same complaint from a user last week and went through it with him.

So is that why when I reset it, the yellow light still blinks for a few more seconds. I have it set to dynamic. I think is what your saying is that I cant interupt the record timer, it has to time out itself.

That is correct. The squelch noise you hear is probably from the "revert n" timer and the recorder will not stop until that times out. The trade off is that if "n" is too short and a dispatcher doesn't get on the PTT soon enough after the tones are sent, your recorder stops and you record nothing.

I understand so far everything that you have told me, the only thing that I havent figured out yet, is after the pager is alerted,i receive the message, i hit the reset button, then the timer times out. The pager should revert to the monitor mode. But it doesnt it remains open. Even after the SV times out. Do you know why it would do that.
I went to my local radio shop and we tested several new and older model Minitor 5's and they all do it. It only seemed to do it on my frequency 151.2500 though, not on any other ones that we programmed in to it.

Minitor-Vs have alot of bugs still far as I am concerned. On my M-V SV when I put it in the amp & I get an alert, the pager will not manually reset when the reset button is pressed while in the amp. I have to wait till the pager auto resets. All my other bugs have been fixed thank god, so this is a bug I can live with.

If anyone has this same problem feel free to PM me so I dont feel alone on this problem,lol.

151.2500 I believe is a spur freq. on Min V. You need an SP unit to avoid the issue you are describing.

What is a Spur frequency and what is a SP unit. Could you go a little more in depth with what you meant in that responce.

The pager generates internal oscillations at 151.2500, that is the noise you are hearing. An SP model has a shift to to allow operation at 151.2500. Basically you need to exchange your pager.

So should I just go back to the radio shop and ask for a Minitor V SP model? I know that the pager faulses alot when in the open position, but I dont understand why the pager won't remain closed after its alerted and then reset. It soumds like it has reset but any traffic on the radio just even a minute after the alert is picked up. It shouldnt do that.

The pager "hears" the internal noise as "traffic" which is why the pager is opening. Your dealer should know that if you operate on that frequency, you need the SP unit. However more times than not dealers are unaware of this.

It does not reset because you are on monitor mode. The internal noise is deemed to be "traffic" hence the pager onpening. Select a non revert mode and you will not see the problem. Exchange your pager.
