Need someone who can repair RIB's and SmartRIB's

Post by d119 »

Group,

Our shop has three dead SmartRIB's and 2 dead 4008 RIB's. We don't have the time to fix these right now, but do need to get them fixed.

Is there anyone out there who has a good track record for SmartRIB and RIB repairs?

I'm looking for a flat-rate type arrangement to get these 5 units back online.

Please PM. Thanks.

I'll look into that, but in the meantime, anyone else have thoughts?

What radios do you own?: Motorola, Icom, Sunair (HF).

RIB Repairs

Post by kc7gr »

The most common failures I've found in the standard 4008 RIBs are one or both of the IC's.

What I usually do is deslobber the old ones, install a couple of machined-pin 8-position DIP sockets, and then plug new IC's in. This makes it much easier to replace if they fail again.

Possible alternative, though it will be a time-consuming process: Purchase one or more blank RIB PC boards from Sandy Ganz, and make your own RIB replacements. Sandy's design is every bit as good, if not better, than Motorola's.

Quicker alternative: Hunt around on Greed-bay for a seller called 'Radiostew.' He sells the Sandy Ganz RIB already assembled in a nice enclosure.

If you're bound and determined to get your existing RIBs fixed, I could look at them for you, or Will could. Drop me a PM to set things up.

Keep the peace(es).

Yes, he sure was....
I think i got the last rib from him(rather his blessed family) and a cable too... i have not had one problem with either.... although i am thinking of trying out a MOTOROLA ribless cable for my cdm's and ht1550's just for the conveinance i guess... and to see just how much better they are or not.
Radios by Fisher-Price? Never!!!
I use /\/\otorola!!
Cheers
