CDM1550 went dead after programming

Post by n9upc »

Well I was programming a few of my old CDM1550 remote head set-up radios the other day.

The radio was mounted correctly and all Motorola parts were used, no hack jobs in the install.

Well I connected my offical Motorola programming cable to the mic jack, then to the RIB, then powered on the computer and the radio. Loaded the codeplug and programmed the radio. (NOTE: The codeplug I used for programming was the one I read out of the radio and made my changes in so no issues with wrong band/model etc...)

So I hit program on the software, I heard the radio do it's bleep bleep and then a reset type beep, and then boom it went dead. So I checked the cable and fuses=good, I swapped head units=still no power, I swapped drawer units=boom power came back.

So now I am trying to figure out what could have crapped out when I programmed the drawer unit??? After this I programmed two other mobiles with NO problems at all.

The person I was programming them with stated that he thought the plug slipped out of the mic jack (as the plastic locking tab broke on me ages ago). Therefore, I was wondering if something blew on the board when the plug may have slipped out when I was programming it???

Now note the radio will not power on at ALL. No EEPROM CP ERROR just no power at all.

So can anyone provide a suggestion on what to check or what might be wrong???? Thanks in advance.

I hope it's this simple.... sounds like what happens when you program one for 'follow ignition only' and it doesn't have an ignition lead hooked up.

theese sound like remote mounts? if so put the head back on the actual radio and see what happens.

There is no ign sense enabled as I programmed two more after the first one that went dead and they programmed fine.

That is my next step is to put the head back on the drawer part and see what happens.

However, I do find it weird that the cable and control head work great with the other drawers but not that one. I am thinking something went to crap inside the drawer.

But we shall see

I'd try hooking up ignition to it just in case... sounds like it got corrupted though, it might need a vacation south of the border.

somehow i remember a release note on theese that tells you to put the head back on the radio before you program them? anyone else see that memo and remember exactly what it said?

now that you mention it, yes.. they do tell you not to program them through a remote head, you should program them as a one piece.

Yeah I also remember seeing quite a few threads reguarding this back when I had my CDM1550 as that configuration.

Try reading/writing the radio with the rear 20 pin flash/program cable.

If that doesn't work, try using the bootstrap flash adapter to recover the radio from the rear connector.

Both methods should be attempted with the head mounted to the body of the radio, not in remote mode.
