A system key isn't in the radio. It's a file you need to have on your computer that the RSS loads and is required to program the radio onto a trunking system. You can obtain this key from your system administrator, assuming you are authorized to be on the system. That is the only way to obtain the key as it's a restricted item and Motorola will not give it out or sell it to anyone other than those specifically authorized.

If you're trying to program your radio onto a trunking system that you have authorization to be on, your system administrator shouldn't have a problem doing so. However if you aren't authorized, you would be better off with a scanner, as there's no system key required with those.

Also, your topic implies you have an MTX8000 but you say it's a 403-470. The MTX8000 only came in an 800MHz version so it's possible you have a "Frankenradio" in which case the system key may not even do you any good at all.

Actually, he states he has an MTX838 radio, which most certainly DID come in both UHF & VHF versions, here in Canada & Australia for sure. I've programmed hundreds of them.

Yup, I just saw that. But, the thread topic is MTX8000. So what do you have, an MTX8000 or MTX838?

System Keys

And not that anyone here on the board says that this is a good idea......

You can make your own....its right here on Batlabs....

Remember that you would do this at your own risk as it is illegal in most jurisdictions. Also, remember if you have a radio programmed on a system where you are not authorized, in addition to it being illegal, your radio can be inhibited by the system administrator and you will have a expensive paperweight!

If his MTX 838 came from roughly where I think it did, he might be trying to get rid of a TRS already in the radio. They never bothered deprogramming them when they sold them off.[/i]

No problem, that is what this is all about. Everyone on this board was new to two way radio at sometime in their lives.
