JT1000 Questions
Just aquired a JT1000 VHF, and I have a few questions.
1. Under the "Band" settings, there's a choice of Narrow, Mid, and Wide. What would be the proper setting for the two meter ham band, and for the railroad band? (monitoring only, of course!)
2. Is the LCD display contrast adjustable? It seems best when viewed from below, it this normal for this radio?
3. I cannot use channel 1 for repeater operation. When I set up the input, output, and tone, it always defaults to repeater talkaround. I think it may be because repeater talkaround is enabled in RSS for channel 1. Is this defeatable via the front keypad?
Thanks!

The lcd contrast cannot be adjusted. Count yourself lucky it does not have dead pixels.
Talksround has most likely been set on one of the side buttons. RSS is the only way to change this. It is not programmable from the keypad.
Enjoy these were great radios.

The ABC switch on top is also a common place to set repeater/talkaround. watch the display.. the arrow in the upper right corner indicates simplex or talkaround. try the B or C position.

Thanks for the replies.
The ABC switch is set up for scanning - A is scan on; B is scan off; and C is scan program. This is actually the way I want it.
The display has no dead pixels, I guess I'm lucky; I've heard that this is a common problem with these radios.
I'm going to have to try to disable the "talkaround enabled" feature which is enabled on channel 1, otherwise I'm stuck to using that channel for simplex only.

Display contrast adjustment is set by a tiny pot on the display board, but you have to remove the board to access this adjustment unfortunately.
It's tiny, about 1/8" square, and probably has red glue on it to lock the setting(LocTite).
It's more work to remove and replace the board than to adjust the contrast.

If I recall the field programmibility option is available in the RSS on a channel by channel basis. Perhaps channel 1 has this option turned off ?
T/A can only be activated when assigned to a switch. Besides the A-B-C switch try the concentric under the channel switch or even the Man Down switch can be assigned this function.

IIRC, on the JT1000, the concentric switch is keyboard lock, and the man down button is DTMF toggle, and neither can be reassigned.
