MTX8000 Keypad Issues

Post by NSPD »

I have a B5 Jedi (MTX8000) that I just got in. I wrote in a MTS2000 codeplug and aligned the radio, and it works fine on th talkgroups in the scan list for the first zone. The problem is that I cannot access any other zones at all. I can bring up the Menu with the left menu button, and scroll with that button, but I can't select anything. The home and arrow buttons do not work at all. No beeps, nothing.

Any ideas? Or.. anyone have a B5 MTS2000 800mhz codeplug they can email me so I can start over?

Thanks!

If you don't mind my asking; Howcome you put in an MTS2000 codeplug into your MTX8000? The only "plus" I can think of would be that you can program it via CPS instead of RSS, I don't believe there is any addidtional "plus" than that. I use "plus" in a very loose sense here.

The TX Inhibit option mostly. MTX's by default do not support it, or at least none of the ones I have ever had do.

I have a "virgin" MTX8000; that is, one that's never been touched by lab. It suppors TX Inhibit. It isn't however a menu option, you can only assign it to the A/B/C and concentric switch. Does the TX Inhibit option in the menu work when you use an MTS codeplug?

I don't have it assigned to the menu now, but it will show up if you put it there. Whether it works I not I don't know...

I simply have TX Inhibit assigned to the 2-position switch to make my radio a scanner.

TX Inhibit is a feature of later firmware versions of MTX8000/838 units. I believe it needs to be 2.xx to have it. I seriously doubt it actually works in lower firmware version radios that have had an MTS codeplug forced into it, but I haven't tested it.

The MTS codeplug does allow frequencies past 821/866 MHz to be programmed, but that's also easily done with the MTX with an RSS modification.

It could allow you the option of programming full 32-ch SmartZone systems into the MTX. I did do such a thing at one point, and it seemed to work well enough, although I suspect if I travelled around with it, I would find it couldn't handle roaming very well, since the firmware doesn't support adjacent tower scanning & stuff.

The CPS won't work with an MTX radio even with an MTS codeplug forced into it. It's been posted here a few times that it either gives an error when reading, or if it reads, it gives an error upon writing.
