GP-68 UHF mic. to hot

Hi all, I have a GP-68 UHF and the mic. is much to hot, I reduced the deveation but didnt help. Is there a mic. sensitivity pot on the inside?. I can use the radio if I talk low but it still picks background noise. Perplexed. Thank you. Davie

The plug for the GP68 spkr mic is standard Motorola, so you
can use any Motorola spkr/mic with that plug, but you will find that some work better than others. One that usually works pretty
well is the HMN9725 which is fairly easy to find. What
you probably need if you're having a background noise problem
is what is called a noise-cancelling mic. The mic element in the
standard units is an electret which is quite sensitive -- too
sensitive in your case.

I have speaker mics that work ok but dont always like to use them. In the old days, I used to cut out a round piece of cardboard and put a small hole in the center of it and put it over the mic element. Havent had the nerve to open the radio yet so will probably go the speaker/ mic route. thank you Tom. Davie

There is a piece of felt and a black rubber 'boot' between the mic element and the housing, it could be missing. Sometimes persons have been known the drill out the mic hole in the housing, remove the felt, among other things.

Mic element could even have been punched out with a pin, ect.
