Astro Saber DES-XL

Post by Randy Giffin »

Hi
I purchased a Astro Saber with DES-XL and found that when I select DES encrypt on mode that the display shows "HWKey" in the display. I have read all of the information I can find on the DES-XL option and I have found nothing about a hardware key if that is what it means. Can anyone explain this to me? If a hardware key exists is it compatible with all other DES-XL radios and boards of the same type? Is the hardware key configureable? If so how?

Thanks
Randy :-?

The "HWKey 0" text on the display merely indicates what key the radio is currently using, for multikey equipped radios. It doesn't refer to some hardware device sitting in the radio, but a location in the radio's memory into which you can load a key for the encryption module with a KVL. You can change the "HWKey x" text to whatever you like in CPS.
