Desktrac and Radius mobile receiving QCII tones

Post by cduda »

I have one fire company using a descktrac base and another using a Radius M216 mobile to receive QCII tones to set off their siren. When reading the radio, on the desired channel, nothing is set to the RX side of things. Just wondering how else is these radios able to receive the QCII tones to set off a fire whistle.

When you set up a system(QCII), when the radio receives the tones, the radio beeps that it received them ok and displays CL (or something close to that) but does not set off the siren. Disabled that system and it set the siren off.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

OK let me think about this. If you alert the radius mobile and it flashes "CA", this means call alert. This is used to page a mobile if the the operator is out of the vehicle. It will also set off the the horn alert output to honk the car horn that a call has been received. Your siren is probally tripped from the horn alert output.

The other mode is SEL-CALL. This is where a signalling sequence is sent at the begining of a transmission to selectively unmute the speaker of the intended radio (display shows SC?). It will not activate the horn alert output and the signalling sequence must be sent on every transmission.

Check how the radio is programmed in the signalling menu of RSS.

I retrofitted a whole bunch of Desktracs, Maxtracs, and Radius radios for a fire department. I installed QCII decoder boards that responded to one or more QCII codes. The decoders trigger the station PA, and some QCII codes also keyed an audio gen produces the siren tone for the PA syst. Turned on lights, ect.

So, It might not be programmed into the radio, but first check the Signaling Menu to see.
