Spectra RSS - Zone Programming to Non Zone and lost Scan

Post by jmr061 »

I was doing some RSS changes with a Spectra VHF that is capable of zone operation. I changed it back to non zone after not being able to set the scan up the way I wanted to. Now the scan field is set to disabled and it wont allow me to go and change it. The cursor skips that option when tabing through it.

Anyone ever run into this before and is there a way to trick it back into scan. I added a whole bunch of freqs and really don't feel like retyping them all.

Thanks

Without getting out a machine to re-learn all of the details, when you use the zone feature in an A-, B- or C-model Spectra, you handle the creation and definition of scan lists via the zone screen. When in the zone screen, you should see an F key legend on the bottom of the screen that will get you there. There is, in essence, a separate scan list for each zone.

One issue I seem to recall is that when you enter the zone screen, you are defaulted to the Zone 1 Scan List, even if you entered it from another zone. If you're not paying attention, you'll edit something you didn't intend to edit, and then have to go back and fix it again.

Something tells me the codeplug is a bad hack job... sounds like a similar issue to everything going "NOT AVAIL" when you read from the radio, rather than using a plug from disk.

You might try enabling zones, disabling scan, disabling zones... see if you can get it unconfoozed. I presume the Disabled you're seeing is on the Conventional radiowide screen? Non-zone scan must be enabled there before you can enable it in the modes.

Radio is a true blue legit radio. Been in patrol car since day one. I was playing with zone setup, seeing that the scan in it wouldn't do what I wanted I went back to non zone in the codeplug and lost the scan option, it comes up as disabled and can't change it. Tried messing around with the scan once enabling zones again, put it back into non zone and scan is permanently disabled, it sucks.

Usually, and it's been some time since I set up scan on a spectra, there are at least 2 places to activate a scan feature. One is the scan list and the other is the actual mode or personality. As I am at home now I can't give any further details but I will setup a system on Monday and see if I can see anything.

In the meantime make sure every place there is a scan feature or input there is something programmed for your requirements.

last time I did one I found you must have the zone operation disabled before you set the scan operations and program lists....do all the scan stuff before you enable the zone operation...Try that...

I dont think some of you are understanding this. I just re-did the codeplug and its fine now, lesson learned, dont go to zones unless your going to stay with them.

I converted the codeplug to zones, decided the zones scan list didn't do what I wanted it to do. Disabled zones and scan in the radio wide settings is disabled and it won't let me go to that to change it to enable it.
