CDM1250 remote mounting modification

Post by cfdeng3 »

I have a CDM 1250 that I want to make a remote mount...BUT I only have to go about 2 feet. Is there a way I can do it by just buying the flat ribbon cable???

Any help would be great.

What radios do you own?: XTS 5000

You should be able to get away with that, as long as you can get the tools to crimp the RG45 connector on and get the wiring correct. Do you have the remote mount head on the actual radio?

The question is a little unclear... are you asking if you could make your own shorter cable for the remote mount kit, or are you asking if you can replace the flex cable between the head and radio body with a longer one, without using a remote kit?

The radio does have a removable remote head, which I removed and wish to mount separate from the radio body. I am only looking to remote it approx. 2 feet. I have been looking to purchase the 12 conductor flat ribbon cable that connects the remote head to the radio body, and up to this point have been unsuccessful.

Thanks for the help!

You're not going to find one from Motorola, the radios are not meant to be used like that. You'd need to find the right type of cable from a third party, and then you have the problem of mounting the head and having the head and radio left open with no covers.
The remote mount is around $100, provides covers for the radio and head as well as a way to mount the head, and then you just need standard 8 conductor silver satin cable with modular connectors (8P8C) which you can make yourself in whatever length you need.
