Kenwood TK-780

Post by KG4LHQ »

Hello,

Bought a TK-780 here off the forums and as it is a beautiful radio the squelch seems to be set WAY! to high... I can't hardly keep a signal in unless its very strong.

Apparenly looking in the software there isn't a spot to lower the squelch as unlike others where its 1-15...

I found that you access a squelch in test mode... 1 - 256... Can anyone tell me where they have their radio set at if they have this model and all that.

I'm looking for above static but not so high I can't hear anything.

Mods, I know this is a motorola forum but there is such great help from the people on the forums here... Please allow leaving it for a few days please.

Personally, I turn it down until it opens the squelch, then back off a few. If you get in a high RF area and it blows squelch, turn it up a bit more.

The proper level will vary from radio to radio.

Ok adjust the squelch it was set on 225 out of 256 lowered it to 152 just above the squelch...

Anyone got any settings for the sensitivity?

Be very careful screwing around in that menu. You can jack things up pretty easily... you need a service manual and test equipment before you do too much playing.

Other than radios which were clearly out of alignment, I've never had any reason to mess with any of those settings except for squelch. I've probably got 15-20 TK780s/TK780Hs in service...

OK I'm goign to leave the sensitivity alone....

I think the squelch fixed my problem... It was very high and hardly any signals unless they we're strong was able to come over the speaker.

Thanks Moderator for your insight.
