CDM 1550

I currently have a CDM 1550 with a backlight problem. I had the backlight on my radio stop working after I unplugged the remote mount kit while the radio was on. After that I was unable to get the backlight to work with either the remote mount kit or the standard setup. I checked in the software programming and the backlight is activated.

I hope that there is something that I can do.

Is there a button assigned to adjust the brightness of the backlight, and if so have you cycled through it and verified that is not the cause of your problem ?

There is a button assigned to the backlight but when I press it nothing happens.

Are any other status LEDs working on the control head? Are you able to turn it on/off from the face?

These could be signs that you lost FLT_A+ power to the head, yet you still have 5V, which runs the display driver.

If you are savy with a volt meter, check TP0831 on the control head for 12+ volts. If you find nothing there then you will have to look to a fuse on the main board.

In most cases, there is a 3A fuse on the FLT_A+ line labeled F0401. In some other cases this is listed as a small resistor depending on the version of board you have. Odds are this fuse is blown and needs to be replaced.

None of the status LEDS work but the on/off button does work. I will have to pull out the multi-meter and check everything out.

Mine did that too. I tried to repair it. I managed to break even more things on it, but it started working again too. So quit while I was ahead and put the soldering iron away.

Ok after reading the linked thread I will be not attempting this.

Is this something that I could send back to mother motorola and have them fix this. If so how much could this possibly run.

The (/\/\) flat rate is $284. Depending on your vendor this could be a little higher for shipping costs, etc...

This is also something that ANY radio shop can repair easily on the bench. Usually for under an hour's worth of labor plus the cost of the fuse.
